What a Beaumont Sex Crime Lawyer Does for You
A Beaumont sex crime lawyer defends a person accused of a sex offense in Texas, from the first investigation through trial or resolution. Barbieri Law Firm is based in Frisco, Texas, and represents clients across Texas. People in Beaumont and Southeast Texas can reach out. Whether the firm takes a case outside Collin County and Dallas-Fort Worth depends on the facts, and that is confirmed at the consultation.
This service is for people who have been arrested, charged, or told they are under investigation. It also serves family members who need to understand the process. Professionals face added risk. Teachers, medical workers, coaches, and employees can lose jobs, licenses, and reputation long before a case ends.
Many Texas sex crime charges are felonies with long prison ranges. A clear plan helps you weigh your options. You don’t have to act today. The first step is a conversation.
If you were just arrested or learned of a sex crime or assault investigation in Beaumont or elsewhere in Texas, our team invites you to talk through your options at a free consultation. Talk it through with our team — the first consultation is free, confidential, and carries no obligation.

Sex Crime and Assault Charges the Firm Defends
The firm defends sex crimes, aggravated sexual assault, child sex crimes, online sex crimes, aggravated assault, family violence, and theft for students and non-citizens. The grade of each charge sets the possible punishment, so learn the grade early.
- Aggravated sexual assault. Under Penal Code § 22.021, this is a first-degree felony. For aggravated sexual assault under § 22.021, the minimum term of imprisonment is increased to 25 years when the victim is younger than 6, or when the victim is younger than 14 and an aggravating circumstance listed in § 22.021(f) applies.
- General indecent exposure under Penal Code § 21.08 is a Class B misdemeanor, while exposure-based indecency with a child under Penal Code § 21.11(a)(2) is a felony of the third degree.
- Online solicitation of a minor under Penal Code § 33.021 is a third-degree felony in its base form, and it is a second-degree felony when the minor is actually younger than 14 or when the actor believes the minor is younger than 14. Soliciting a minor to meet is a second-degree felony.
- Aggravated assault. Under Penal Code § 22.02, this is a second-degree felony. Aggravated assault under Penal Code § 22.02 is a first-degree felony when specific factors apply, including an assault against a person the actor knows is a public servant lawfully discharging an official duty (or in retaliation for that duty), an assault against a person the actor knows is a security officer performing security duties, retaliation against a witness, informant or person who reported a crime, or family violence in which the actor uses a deadly weapon and causes serious bodily injury.
- Theft. Under Penal Code § 31.03, theft means unlawfully appropriating property with intent to deprive the owner of it. The property’s value affects the grade.
Prior convictions can raise punishment. Under Penal Code § 12.42(c)(2), a mandatory life sentence can apply to certain repeat sex offenses when the current offense is a listed one, such as §§ 22.021, 22.011, 21.11, 20.04(a)(4), or 30.02 with sexual intent, and the defendant has a required prior conviction for a listed offense. Under Penal Code § 12.42, a defendant who qualifies under subsection (c)(2) shall be punished by life imprisonment in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. For subsection (c)(2), a deferred adjudication can count. Under Penal Code § 12.46, a prior conviction can be used again later.
Registration can follow even a deferred case. Under Code of Criminal Procedure art. 62.001, a deferred adjudication for listed sex offenses can be a reportable conviction.
How the Defense Process Works, Step by Step
The process moves from a first review of the charge to evidence work, early court steps, and then trial preparation or a resolution. Each stage has options, and the lawyer explains them before you decide.
- Initial review. You share the charging papers, bond paperwork, and any notices. We review the charge and the next court dates.
- Evidence review. We review police reports, recordings, messages, and forensic or digital evidence.
- Early court steps. Bond conditions, arraignment, and requests for the prosecution’s evidence (discovery) come first.
- Investigation and negotiation. Where the facts support it, we investigate and talk with the prosecutor.
- Trial preparation or resolution. Under Code of Criminal Procedure art. 42A.101, deferred adjudication community supervision requires a plea of guilty or nolo contendere, and art. 42A.102(b) bars it for several sex offenses, including certain § 22.021 cases and § 21.02 offenses, and for defendants with a prior listed sex-offense conviction or deferred adjudication. That option still carries registration and record consequences, so review it early.
Timelines vary by county, court, and case complexity. No specific timeline is promised. A common mistake is waiting. Early steps such as bond conditions can shape the case, so delay can narrow your options.
What to Expect at Your Free Consultation
The initial consultation is free, and there is no obligation to continue. It is a working meeting. You leave with a clearer picture of the charge and your choices.
Bring these items if you have them:
- Charging papers, bond paperwork, and any court notices
- Letters or notices from police, prosecutors, or the court
- A written timeline of events, with dates
- Names of people involved, and any messages or records you have
Full, accurate facts matter. A lawyer can’t judge your options well without them, including the hard parts. Tell your lawyer the whole story, even the parts that feel embarrassing.
At the meeting, the lawyer explains the possible charge range, enhancements, the next court dates, and your options. No lawyer can predict how a case will end from a first meeting.
